Kidnapping: Individuals Raise Alarm Over Insecurity in Uyo

More individuals living in Uyo metropolis have expressed deep concern about the alarming cases of insecurity in Uyo. The citizens have therefore beckoned on the state government to be proactive and sincere in the fight against kidnapping and armed robbery incidence in the once peaceful city. Among such citizens greatly bothered following the recent kidnap of a retired Major General of the Nigerian Army, Edet Akpan is the chairman of Applicant Welfare and National Development Centre. Mr. Ekanem Inyang, who recently bared his mind with The Sensor on Monday. The human rights activist spoke on the dangers and negative effect of insecurity on the state economy and called on the government to use its network of securities to track down the perpetrators from their hide out. He narrated how Mr. Udo Udoaka of First Bank who was in the state to carry out consultation services for the state government was kidnapped.
According to him, other personalities of the team were spared as the hoodlums also made away with their valuables including phones and their luggage. Mr. Ekanem Inyang who was shocked about the development explained that citizens of the state unwillingly doled out millions of naira to kidnappers on daily basis and wondered whether the Joint Security Task Force of the state government are living to their expectation. Mr. Ekanem Inyang who is also an executive officer with the Economic Network of Civil Societies in the State has similarly called on the state government to either lift the ban on motor bikes at night or provide alternative vehicles to alleviate the sufferings of the poor masses at night. He noted that the state Governor has no justification in stopping bike when his government has not given an alternative source of transportation for the struggling masses who have now been forced to their houses daily from 7pm. According to him, the situation has only increased the suffering of the struggling masses who were in the past helping themselves with their chosen career. The NGO boss also tongue lashed the Nigeria police for failing in their responsibilities of tracking down criminals but daily terrorise cyclist operators for no just cause. He has therefore appealed to the Commissioner of Police Akwa Ibom State Command to check the excesses of his men which he said has caused them to fail in their duties.
