Chief Jerome Isangedihe, member representing Oron-Udung Uko in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, has on Sunday March 28, 2010

declared that the state is experiencing peace despite attempts by some individuals to portray the state in the opposite direction.
The lawmaker said this in Uyo while commenting on a peace award recently conferred on him saying that “you can measure the amount of peace were projected and recorded so far because where there is a problem, development cannot take place. We have peace in Akwa Ibom State”.
Chief Isangedihe who dedicated his award to peace noted that community and opinion leaders have a major role to play in maintaining peace in their locality recalling, that “two months ago when people of Eyo Abasi and Idua communities engaged in a communal clash which claimed 10 lives, I invited some of the eminent sons and daughters  of the area to intervene and this had helped quell the crisis”.
Earlier in her speech the national coordinator of the youth federation for World Peace, Ngozi Annah had said her organization is an international non-governmental organization which transcends national borders to work with people to achieve global world peace.
She did disclose that their ambassadorial award was aimed at nominating leaders in communities to coordinate and maintain peace she therefore had charged recipients to utilize their position towards engendering peaceful coexistence.
The state coordinator, Mrs. Pat Thompson revealed that the idea behind the recent activities in the state was to encourage people to live exemplary lives based on integrity.
She maintained that peace is an essential ingredient in an environment since it brings about focused development and positive investment of energy pointing out that her organization has initiated, over the years, programmes which focus on finding lasting solutions to the Niger Delta dilemma as well as bringing Christian and Muslim youths together to fashion out ways for lasting peace in Northern Nigeria.
Present at the event were, Pastor Andrew U. Uyanta, Obong Aniefiok David Ekpo, Mrs. Mercy Ita Effiong, Elder Sunny Umoh and other  dignitaries.
