Apparently worried by the sudden decline in the quality of education in Nigeria, the executive president of National Association of Nigerian Students, (NANS)
Comrade Ini Ememobong Essien has called on the federal government and stakeholders in the education industry to provide the Nigerian Students with sound and qualitative education that will make them to compete favourably with their contemporaries in other countries across the world. Comrade Ini Ememobong who made the called in Uyo recently while exchanging views with The Sensor education reporter disclosed that why the system of education in Nigeria is deteriorating is because schools are not provided with adequate modern teaching and learning facilities while lecturers in tertiary institutions and teachers are not treated as serious stakeholders in the development of our society. In his words “the position of NANS is that we want better, sound and qualitative education. When we have an agreement like FG and ASUU negotiation, we want it implemented, not only on air waves. We want better infrastructures in our school system. If you get into our schools, you will realize that some secondary schools in Ghana are far better than our universities here”, he lamented. Speaking further, the Executive NANS President said the organization will not only serve as a serious pressure group but programmes implementing organization; adding that he has set up a strategy for the association which is change and established concrete rapport to run partnership with Dantata and Sawoe for the provision of electronic libraries to schools across the six geo-political zones in addition to construct sixty rooms hostel, equipped with modern facilities to selected schools in the country. He also hinted that the vision he has for the organization will not only catapult it to the next level but usher in visible turn around in the progressive wheel of NANS. Having established contact with the House of Reps. Committee on Education and Senate Committee on Education to give Nigeria educational system priority in the present government, he stressed on the need to re-launch Nigeria educational system into a global centre stage. He however lauded the free and compulsory education project of governor Godswill Akpabio which according to him has attracted national and international supports. He summarily added that the programme will not only strengthen add value to the educational system but will secure a brighter future for every Akwa Ibom Child.
