The trial of a 30-year-old man, Ahmed Oluwaseyi Olayiwola, who allegedly attempted to detonate a bomb at a Lagos television station on December 22, last year,
was yesterday stalled again at the Chief Magistrate's Court, Ebutte Metta, Lagos. The prosecutor, Emmanuel Olanrewaju, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), told the magistrate, Mrs Kemi Doja-Ojo, that the suspect's case file had been sent to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), whose legal advice was still being awaited. The trial was adjourned till April 29. It was the second time the trial was adjourned since Olayiwola was arraigned. The first time was on March 1. Olayiwola, who was brought to court by two men, was a sorry sight, his two hands having been amputated, leaving him with two swollen stumps. He was also blinded by explosives. Olayiwola allegedly attempted to bomb Logemo House at 63 Post Office Road, Ikorodu Road, the office of Superscreen Television, when the bomb exploded in his hands. He was arraigned on a five-count charge that read: that "at about 1732 hours…he did unlawfully detonate explosives at the Logemo House, property of Christ Embassy Church;" and that he "did willfully and unlawfully set fire on the building." In the process, he destroyed part of the building worth N200million, the police said. The police also said the suspect "did attempt to kill one Pastor Chris Oyakhilome with explosives," adding that he threatened Pastor Oyakhilome and others if the pastor failed to pay N5million into his account. The alleged offences are punishable under Sections 452, 443, 451 (A) (B), 320 and 86 (1) of the Criminal Code, Cap. C17, Vol. II, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.
