PDP Presidential Rally: Jonathan Meets A’Ibom ACN Decampees … Promises To Build Railway Line, Refineries PDF Print E-mail

Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, Presidential standard bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who was in Akwa Ibom State yesterday with his running mate, Arc. Namadi Sambo and other top officials of the PDP

 for the party's presidential campaign rally at the Uyo Township Stadium may not have had in his itinerary to shake hands with and welcome decampees of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Akwa Ibom State chapter into the PDP, but it happened amidst cheers from the mammoth crowd.
Decampees from the ACN showed up in large numbers last week at the Governorship rally of Governor Godswill Akpabio at Uyo, Ikot Ekpene Senatorial Districts and Ika local government area.
Leading the decampees yesterday, Mr. Chris Abasi Eyo, former Commissioner in Akwa Ibom State and running mate of Mr. James Iniama of Action Congress (AC) in the 2007 Gubernatorial elections in Akwa Ibom State told President Jonathan, other dignitaries and mammoth crowd of PDP supporters that the decampees were returning to where they originally belonged, the PDP.
Eyo said their adventure to the ACN only goes to show that they like all Nigerians have the right to join political parties of their choice but have decided to return and join the PDP umbrella
In his address at the occasion which offered party faithful in Akwa Ibom State the opportunity of coming out in large numbers to restate their support for the Dr. Goodluck Jonathan/Arc. Namadi Sambo ticket, during the forthcoming election , the President warned the Akwa Ibom electorate against engaging in violence during the forthcoming election.
The President said if Nigerians elect him and Arc. Sambo in the April presidential poll, they will continue to focus on fostering unity and progress of the Nation calling on all to join hands with him and his running mate to make sure that the government succeeds.
The president said his administration will continue to work towards improving the power sector since even small and medium scale enterprises cannot thrive without a stable power sector.
Dr. Jonathan also announced that when elected for a four year term, the administration will construct a railway line from Lagos state to Calabar to aid transportation of goods and passengers to reduce pressure on roads.
He promised that refineries will be built in the country so that crude oil exploited can be refined in Nigeria. He also promised that Petrochemical industries for the production of fertilizer will be established.
Jonathan commended the State Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio for the free and compulsory education in the state which he said is not being enjoyed by Akwa Ibom children alone but it is accessible to all Nigerian children resident in Akwa Ibom state saying that Nigeria needs dynamic leaders in the class of Governor Akpabio if  the country must work together for its transformation.
He used the occasion to condole with the families of those who lost their lives during the rally in Port Harcourt saying that government is working out strategies to prevent such occurrence in future. The President also said that anyone found culpable in the events that led to the stampede will be made to face the law.  
Vice President, Arc. Namadi Sambo expressed delight over the warm reception by the people of Akwa Ibom state saying that the President and his administration represent unity and development promising that this will be delivered to the people if he and the President return to Aso Rock in 2011.
He assured that with the experience of President Jonathan and cooperation of the citizens, Nigeria will surely have a new face as every good thing desired by Nigerians will be made available to them.
The Governor of Akwa Ibom state, Chief Godswill Obot Akpabio describing Dr. Goodluck Jonathan as a performer expressed the hope that for the development of Nigeria and future generations every Nigerian should vote in favour of the Goodluck/Sambo ticket in the April elections.
Gov. Akpabio assured the President that he has full support from the people of Akwa Ibom state as was displayed during PDP presidential primaries in Abuja recently.
Chief Akpabio encouraged the people to vote for President Jonathan and be assured of dualized roads for easy access to other states. Akpabio also stressed that the votes for Jonathan and Sambo would be votes for the development of infrastructure and social amenities.
Also speaking, Nollywood actress, Stephane Okereke charged the people of Akwa Ibom to guide their vote jealously and to vote for President Jonathan. She stressed that with the support of the people unity will be maintained in the country.
