Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) supporters and Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) supporters  clashed yesterday in Ikot Ekpene local government area.
The ACN Gubernatorial candidate, senator John Udoedeghe and ACN supporters had gone to Ikot Ekpene for the party's governorship campaign.
The disagreements we learnt erupted when the venues where the ACN wanted to organize its rally was also said to be occupied by PDP supporters.
However, the ACN governorship candidate and his supporters we learnt moved their rally from the Methodist Primary School, Ekoi in Ikot Ekpene to Primary School, Ekoi.
We learnt that violent clashes erupted in the town shortly after leading to destruction of vehicles and other property.
Our reporter in Ikot Ekpene said the Uyo/Ikot Ekpene roads was also blocked at Itak and overtaken by unknown youths.
Similarly, the streets of Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State Capital were deserted yesterday evening at about 4:30pm when some youths carrying machetes and other dangerous weapons took over the streets, chasing pedestrians and motorists alike.
This we learnt was a fallout of the violence which erupted earlier in Ikot Ekpene.
The violent youths also destroyed vehicles bearing government plate numbers, Ibom taxi scheme vehicles and some houses.
Also affected by attacks of the violent youths were traders at the electronics market along Nepa Line. We gathered that the shops were attacked and looted.
Furthermore, billboards of the Akwa Ibom State Governor and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Chief Godswill Obot Akpabio along Abak road and the Idongesit Nkanga Secretariat were destroyed.
These violent youths also set bonfires at various junctions blocking the free flow of traffic in the city.
Some pedestrians took shelter in houses without gates while others in great fear ran for their lives. There were no vehicles or motorcycles to convey passengers as operators of the different modes of transportation also closed for the day as soon as the trouble started.
Spondaic gun shots were heard in the city of Uyo but no deaths were confirmed as at press time.
Armed Mobile Policemen were deployed in the city to restore security.

These rascals called ACN supporters in Uyo have been warned severally that they should not attempt to go for any empty campaign in Annang land because of their sinful and meaningless hatred of the generous and peace-loving people of the Annang Nation, but they blatantly ignored this warning.

Now see what the actions of the motor park touts and thugs have caused the state as a result of their inhuman disobedience to that timely warning.

Governor Godswill Akpabio should now rise up to his responsibility and stand firm as the chief security officer of the state.

All the perpetrators of this crime should be fished out and dealt with decisively. He must not be seen as a weak governor by the blood thirsty opponents and other well meaning citizens of the state.

Has it become a crime to have opposition? Why should Akpabio feel free to go anywhere and campaign while others are refused? Akpabio must be held accountable for the ethnic war he is incooperating in the state.Instead og giving the youths in the state jobs to do, he is empowering cultists with money and guns. He should remember that there's life after governance
