Cashless Economy Will Stem Corruption –ICAN President PDF Print E-mail

The president of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria ICAN, Prof. Francis Ojaide says that though most Nigerians tend to antagonize the cashless policy of CBN, when implemented it will stem the tide of corruption in Nigeria and enhance international trade relations.
Prof. Ojaide who made this known in Uyo said if Nigeria wants to grow her economy, Nigerians must accept the cashless policy of Central Bank of Nigeria as it will restore confidence and reduce incessant arm robbery attacks in the country.
The ICAN president explained that he was in Akwa Ibom State to meet with stakeholders, meet with employers of accountants and ensure that ICAN members enthrone professionalism in their practice.
He averred that accountants are whistle blowers who must tell the world what is wrong in different organizations, adding that ICAN has been involved in policy making that will curb corruption.
On the issue of difficulty in getting ICAN certificate, the president said ICAN unlike universities and polytechnics that have one lecturers who teaches a course, set the examination, mark the script and score the students, ICAN has board of examiners who set questions, into a pool in which any question can be drawn for examination.
He added that the respect for professionalism which has enhanced quality control.
The former Head of Department unions called on all chartered accountants to always serve with the mind that they are not politicians as such, they should shun any fraudulent act that is capable of tarnishing the image of the body.
Present with him were all the national executive members and council members of Uyo district society of ICAN.
