As medical practitioners prepare to create awareness on the devastating effects of cancer on World Cancer Day this Saturday, Dr. Shogade T. of University of Uyo Teaching Hospital says, improper breastfeeding, infection and hereditary can cause cancer.
Dr. Shogade explained that the essence of the world cancer day is to enable medical practitioners create awareness of the dreaded disease, teach members of the public on early detection of the disease and prevention.
She added that both men and female stand the chance of being infected with cancer, adding that women stand the risk of being infected with the disease.
The medical practitioner warned women against the idea of not breast feeding their children with the mentality to avoid sagging breasts, as women who do not put to birth stand a great chance of being infected.
She advised women to always engage in monthly self examination which will help them detect the growth of lumps, and report to their doctors immediately.
It could be recalled that cancer, especially breast cancer has ravaged Nigerian women in recent times and to reduce the spate of being infected, World Health organization WHO has set aside every 4th February of the year to create awareness about the disease.
